The participants consisted of 42 Japanese students from an all-boys high school. As a treatment, after understanding the content of a long English passage, the participants performed buzz reading (BR), parallel reading (PR), and error-finding reading (EFR) in a separate session. Afterward, they were given identical questionnaires to assess their motivation. Consequently, a significant difference was observed in three of four categories in the questionnaire, suggesting that learners' motivations varied depending on their method of reading aloud. The result of open-ended questions was analyzed using the KJ method, and four noteworthy insights into their motivation for reading aloud were identified.
