This study aims to clarify how to ensure the sustainability of arts and culture that has been placed in a predicament where its survival is threatened for various reasons―colonialism／post-colonialism, the decline of traditional societies, modernization, globalization, wars, disasters, epidemics, ideological control by nation-states, technology innovation, and so forth―rather than continuing arts／culture from the past simply through repetition and citation or restoration. Therefore, this study focuses on the following three different cases：（１）Ainu traditional music culture；（２）Thai traditional music accompanying Thai national martial arts；and（３）Found Footage, a new approach to film art. By applying the key concepts of transculturation and contact zones, where two or more cultures come into contact and mutually influence each other to create a new culture, we will elucidate the process of sustainability of art and culture in a more complex society, where the boundaries between people's travel and dwellings are becoming increasingly unclear. |
