| 内容記述 | This study examines a lesson designed to foster global awareness in elementary school English classes. A lesson plan was developed and implemented to encourage students' interactions in English through “Small Talk” while introducing the lives and cultures of children in a foreign country, aligning with the textbook unit. Through implementation and evaluation, the mutual reinforcement of global awareness and English language learning was explored. The lesson plan incorporated insights from university students who participated in a Cambodian study tour in a teacher-training course. For instance, after briefly discussing their daily habits, such as sleeping and waking hours, in English, students watched a short video depicting Cambodian children working late at night and reflected on their daily lives. The results indicate an increase in students' global awareness, including heightened curiosity about diverse lifestyles and greater empathy for others. This effect appears to stem from their communication in English regarding time use and daily routines. However, to prevent the formation of cultural stereotypes, it is crucial to provide students with continuous and carefully curated exposure to various cultures, allowing them to develop a more informed perspective on global diversity. | |||||||
