| 内容記述 | Do courts make policy or lead public opinion? This article engages the literature of judicial politics, examining the effect of Supreme Court decisions on domestic policy making and common opinion in the United States of America. Starting with the Robert Dahl’s contention that the Court is a policy-making institution, recent researchers have confirmed that his argument generally holds true; federal courts made or influenced a noticeable amount of federal policy changes and several leading Supreme Court cases did move public attitudes in some spheres such as abortion and gay rights. Moreover, while some scholars focus on how media coverage of the Court in terms of procedural justice influences public support for the Court, others focus on how the Court affects popular opinion compared to other institutions such as Congress. Further explorations on each legal issue (e.g., public school integration, affirmative action, gay rights or abortion) are needed to attain more nuanced insight into the role of the courts in American society. | |||||||
