| 内容記述 | This study considers aspects of the Japanese mathematics education system that can be implemented in Fiji and addresses strategies and pedagogies that could be used to improve standards of mathematics in Fiji. There are many concerns in Fiji about the standards of mathematics achievement. Statistics have shown that in both elementary and secondary schools, poor mathematics results have been prevalent for more than a decade (Chand et al., 2021; Joweli, 2018). It is imperative that reforms and initiatives that can bring about a paradigm shift from the traditional teaching and learning practice, one which is still too teacher focused to one that has more learner-centered approaches, are introduced sooner. To bring about the desired results in mathematics in the near future, Fiji should model its strategies and pedagogies after Japan as Japan ranked in the top 10 countries from 2012–2018 in mathematics achievements by the Programme for International Student Assessment. | |||||||||
